IS HMRC STARTING TO CATCH UP WITH THE TAX AVOIDANCE PROMOTERS TOO?
Anyone who knows anything about tax avoidance, will know the name Doug Barrowman, owner of the Knox Group and AML Tax (UK).
The news from HMRC is that his company’s have been fined, £150,000 for failure to comply with formal information notices as part of a tax investigation in which HMRC estimate that they owe more than £3M in tax.
HMRC has clearly stepped up their enforcement game but I can’t help thinking that 150K fine to a company with assets over £3BN won’t make so much as a ripple but we have to give credit where credit is due. The fact that we are now starting to see some action against promoters instead of contractors is good news!
